UJI AKTIVITAS KRIM EKSTRAK ETANOL DAUN PEPAYA (Carica papaya L.) SEBAGAI ANTIACNE PADA KELINCI YANG DIINDUKSI BAKTERI Propionibacterium acnes

Abstract


Cream is a topical dosage form that serves as a medium to deliver active substances locally to the skin surface. Papaya leaves (Carica papaya L.) are known to contain active compounds which possess antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acnes. This study aimed to investigate the effect of varying concentrations of stearic acid on the physical quality and stability of papaya leaf ethanol extract cream, as well as to determine the concentration of stearic acid that provides the best anti-acne activity. Antibacterial testing was conducted using the dilution method at concentrations of 60%, 30%, 15%, 7.5%, and 3.75%. The ethanol extract was formulated into creams containing 15% extract with stearic acid concentrations of 10%, 15%, and 20%. The formulations were evaluated for physical quality, physical stability, and in vivo anti-acne activity in rabbits, with observation parameters including healing time and acne lesion diameter. The results demonstrated that the ethanol extract of papaya leaves at a concentration of 15% exhibited the minimum bactericidal concentration. Formula III, containing 20% stearic acid, showed optimal physical quality, stability, and the most effective anti-acne activity. Therefore, Formula III was determined to be the best formulation of papaya leaf ethanol extract cream in this study
