IDENTIFIKASI POTENTIALLY INAPPROPRIATE MEDICATION (PIM’s) MENGGUNAKAN KRITERIA STOPP PADA PASIEN GERIATRI RAWAT JALAN
Abstract
Potentially Inappropriate Medication (PIM) in geriatric patients needs to be identified because it may increase the risk of adverse drug reactions, particularly in patients with chronic diseases and polypharmacy. Currently, studies on PIM using STOPP 2023 in outpatient settings remain limited. This study aimed to identify the prevalence and pattern of PIM based on the STOPP 2023 criteria in outpatient prescriptions for geriatric patients at Rumah Sakit Umum Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang. This was a descriptive observational study with a retrospective approach using prescription and medical record data of geriatric outpatients from 1 to 31 December 2024. Samples were obtained using a total sampling technique, with the unit of analysis being prescriptions for geriatric patients aged ≥65 years from the pulmonology, cardiology, internal medicine, and neurology outpatient clinics. A total of 1,308 prescriptions were analyzed, and PIM was identified in 246 prescriptions, with a prevalence of 18.8%. Prescriptions containing PIM were more frequently found among prescriptions with polypharmacy and mainly originated from the cardiology and internal medicine outpatient clinics. Based on the STOPP 2023 categories, PIM was most commonly related to the cardiovascular and endocrine systems, with frequently identified drugs including bisoprolol, digoxin, and glimepiride, according to the clinical conditions that met the STOPP 2023 criteria
