Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of fermentation media variations based on jujube (Ziziphus mauritiana) extract and nutrient media on the antibiotic profile of endophytic fungi isolates from jujube plants against digestive tract infection-causing bacteria, namely Escherichia coli and Shigella dysenteriae. The fermentation media included Potato Dextrose Broth (PDB), jujube extract (STB), and combinations of the two in specific ratios. The results showed that the combination of PDB and STB in a 50:50 ratio produced the best outcomes in enhancing bioactive metabolite production, with lower Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) values compared to single media. Variations in fermentation media also influenced mycelial mass, where the PDB-STB combination media resulted in more optimal growth compared to STB-only media. This study highlights the potential of natural ingredient-based media to improve antibiotic production from endophytic fungi, contributing to the development of eco-friendly and sustainable pharmaceutical products
